Are you kidding me? Boomers are turning 80? At 67, I am a baby Baby-Boomer, but sheesh.
In 1946, with the dust barely settling from WWII, soldiers sailed home to their new brides – and bred like bunnies. Look it up.
Anyone who follows my work knows I am obsessed with the Generations. I have published and broadcast endlessly about the subject over the years. I mentor younger people on a daily basis. Decades ago, Toyota and Saturn trained managers like me to “Manage the Generations” and the Workplace.
At the time, there were SIX generations in the workplace – a first in American business. If a manager did not understand the difference between each generation – some nuanced, some huge gaps – the company would experience endless turnover, and an awkward (if not toxic) workplace.
I can’t believe where time has gone:
* The Greatest Generation folks are in their 80s and 90s
* Boomers are late 60s and 70s
* Generation-X, 40s and 50s
* Millennials are (gasp!) in their 30s and early 40s
* Generation-Z are approaching 30
* And goodness, the baby Alphas are in their teens now
NEWS FLASH: All babies born in 2026 are a brand-new Generation – BETA. Or, as I have coined them, the BRAVO Generation! Generation-B will be the first to be conceived with AI in existence.
A note about my fellow Baby-Boomers:
I am surprised with how many Boomers are not slowing down, even as some turn 80. I find that they did not retire – they Re-Tired. Repackaged. Rebranded.
With decades of life experience, and volumes of knowledge and wisdom at their fingertips, they have found a renewed energy in search of personal fulfillment, and the joy of sharing their time and treasure with others. Some of the most energetic, mission-driven men and women I know are in their 70s and 80s.
Cheers to every one of you. (And it just occurred to me, I am one of you!).
